IN THIS LESSON

putting your money to work in a stock, first what is it?

A stock is a piece of ownership in a company. When a company needs money to grow, it can sell shares of itself to investors like you. This makes you a part-owner, and depending on how well the company does, the value of your share could go up or down. If it goes up, you can sell it for a profit, and if the company does really well, you might even get a portion of its profits! Stocks are important because they allow companies to raise capital and for people to invest in and potentially grow their wealth along with the companies they believe in.
